Join us in Ottawa to share your achievements and learn from others how to promote healthy, sustainable, equitable 10-minute neighborhoods. We shall discuss the best neighborhood models for encouraging walking, biking and public transit, places to foster daily social life and community, opportunities for daily contact with nature, and equitable neighborhood planning.

Paper proposals are invited from elected officials, scholars and practitioners concerned with issues such as the following:

Integrating public health and planning

Neighborhood plazas, sociable squares
Streets for people, “Eyes on the Street”

Social networks and urban form
Generating Place-Based Community
Strengthening the “Social immune system”

The Sustainable 10-Minute Neighborhood
Fighting climate change by urban design.
Food deserts, urban agriculture.
Transit-based neighborhood.
Mixed use and human scale.
Lifetime community.
Green and blue urban ecosystems.
Reshaping suburbia.


The Equitable 10-Minute Neighborhood
Health equity planning
Community participation
Prioritizing poor neighborhood needs
Housing the homeless
Social integration.
Stabilizing low income groups.
Public space access.

DESIGN AWARDS COMPETITION

The 2018 IMCL Design Competition jury will consider all submissions that speak to Designing Healthy 10-Minute Neighborhoods. Projects that emphasize Community, Health, Sustainability, and Equity are actively sought, and will be given particular consideration.
